Labor

There is no way an individual can stand up to a corporation in negotiations. Whether it is wages, working conditions, hours, pension, or vacation, the corporation always has the upper hand. In the past, benefits we now take for granted were gained by tough negations conducted on behalf of workers by labor unions. Many of these benefits are being lost now that unions are losing power. They include pensions, working conditions, wages, and knowing schedules in advance. Unions are our last bastion against corporate feudalism. In these rants and essays, I describe the union movement from medieval times to present, and what we need to do to make them stronger and more effective.

It’s a Lie That Unions Cost us Jobs

Today the feather I pull out of the featherbed is the meme that unions are the reason for our deficits and loss of jobs. The conservatives claim that costs resulting from unions and their activities is the reason our country is in such an economic mess and the only...

The Rise of the Extreme Right – An Alternative Theory

I was watching another report of the Tea Party rallies and felt a strange sensation of deja vu.  The views being presented, the way they were presented, the way the partiers reacted, the energy expressed were all familiar somehow.  I sent my mind back to find out...
